How to get to The Slate Shed Graig Wen

By car

Postocde for Sat Nav is LL39 1YP but please check directions below:

Approaching from Dolgellau direction

– Turn off A470 Dolgellau bypass at junction signposted Tywyn/Fairbourne onto the A493. We are exactly 4.5 miles from this point so it is worth setting your milometer as we are easy to miss.  You are very near us when you pass through a narrow stretch of road with walls either side and trees overhanging.  We are on the brow of the slight hill on the RIGHT hand side.  You will see our entrance sign on the main road. You do NOT need to turn off down any lanes and if you pass the quarry and reach Arthog village you have gone too far.

Approaching from coast/Fairbourne direction

- Our entrance is directly on the A493 between Arthog and Dolgellau.  Stay on  A493 out of Arthog up the hill, passing the quarry on your right.  About 1/4 mile past the quarry look out on the left for a small white sign saying "Concealed entrance".  That's us on the left.

By bike or foot

Direct access from Mawddach Trail. Special rates for bike/backpackers.  Use the signposted gate from the Trail about 1 mile East of Morfa Mawddach Station.  Approaching from East, look out for large, concrete block tank traps then walk another approx 200m to the next bench.  On the right hand side you'll find small pedestiran gate with our name on.  Approaching from West we are 3 - 4 miles West of George III pub.  Once through our gate, walk about 600 metres up hill through a field, past a house then across another field and up a steep track through woods.  Reception is at the furthest double glass doors on the side of the building nearest the road.

By train

Morfa Mawddach station 1 mile away with direct access along Mawddach Trail. We can arrange pick-up (including mountain bikes) or drop off at the station for a cost of £10 each way. The Cambrian rail route around the coast here is spectacular.

You can download some excellent guides from the Cambrian Train Line site including Train Gazers showing points of interest along the route and Trailways walks from station to station.

By bus

Buses run between Aberystwyth/Machynlleth and Dolgellau (No. 28) - ask driver to drop you at Graig Wen between Penmaenpool and Arthog.
